A Sedgwick County communications tower was auctioned off Monday to a Florida company.
The tower is located on a 5-acre tract at 1200 E. 77th Street North, just west of Wichita Greyhound Park. It is one of four sites being used by 911 emergency communications.
In about a year, the county will no longer need the tower after the new 911 system becomes operational.
The Florida company won the McCurdy auction, bidding $610,500. That money will go into the county's budget.
Pixius, AT&T and Verizon wireless currently lease space to have their antennas on the tower, and those leases will be assigned to the new purchaser.
