A former deputy district attorney is kicking off a campaign to run against a current deputy DA. Kevin O’Connor will officially announce his candidacy for District Attorney at the Sedgwick County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon. His former boss, Nola Foulston, is retiring after 24 years as District Attorney.
O’Connor joined Foulston’s team as a prosecutor in 1992. While in office, he was involved in some of the State’s most noteworthy criminal trials. He helped prosecute Reginald and Jonathan Carr’s capital murder trial in 2002, the BTK serial killer Dennis Rader in 2005, and Elgin Robinson’s capital murder trial in 2008.
O’Connor left the District Attorney’s office in 2010 to work as a trial attorney. He has also done independent contract work for the Kansas Attorney General.
He will face current Deputy DA Marc Bennett in the Republican primary race.
