WICHITA, Kan.-- For months, homeowners and business owners have been waiting for road construction to begin on North Amidon Street.
"It'd just be nice to get it done and we can move on," said Pam Southers, co-owner of Woody's Automotive near 25th and Amidon.
Last July, the Wichita City council approved partial land acquisition of 30 properties on North Amidon Street, between 21st and 29th streets. The road construction was expected to begin in 2014, but engineers now say that it will begin in the Spring of 2015.
Part of the delay was due to land acquisition taking longer than expected.
"There was quite a bit we had to do. I think we got our last piece finally in March of this year and utility companies have been relocating," said Julianne Kallman, senior engineer for the City of Wichita.
Westar's spokesperson said their crews have finished their responsibility on the project, relocating poles and placing temporary pathways.
"Some of that temporary sidewalk is not holding up very well so we are trying to find some solutions for that," said Kallman.
Money for the road construction project has been set aside in the City of Wichita Capital Improvement Plan. Kallman said the council will have to authorize the use of those funds in the Fall.
Once the road construction begins in the Spring, they expect the project to last 18 months.
