Sedgwick County Manager Bill Buchanan outlined his proposed 2012 recommended budget to county commissioners Wednesday morning.
The 411,883,410 budget recommends laying off about 70 county workers, closing Sedgwick County and Lake Afton stores.
Cuts could also be made to the corrections' adult residential program, and the development disabilities organization.
The county hopes to put $10,000,000 into a rainy day fund.
Buchanan blames the changes on revenue problems because of the slow economy.
The county budget also calls for an increase in emergency fees as crews are responding to more calls. Buchanan said the number of transports and commodity costs present a serious financial challenge to Sedgwick county EMS.
A public hearing will be held July 20 and August 2. The county is expected to adopt the budget August 3.
