The Kansas Corporation Commission has approved a settlement agreement between Kansas Gas Service, the KCC and Citizens' Utility Ratepayer Board. KGS will be allowed to raise rates by $28 million.

Residential gas customers will see an approximate increase of less than $2 a month of $24 a year. The new rates will go into effect January 1, but do not include cost of gas, which is unregulated by the commission and subject to market fluctuation.

KGS dropped their weather normalization proposal as part of the settlement. The $28 million increase is less than the original request by the utility of $50.7 million.

The last request for an increase was in 2006 when the commission approved at $52 million dollar rate hike for KGS's 632,000 customers in Kansas.
