Dry conditions helped fuel a grass fire in southwest Wichita.
Firefighters were called to the scene near K-42 and Hoover road, near the big ditch arrive 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. Crews arrived to find flames shooting up in the air. Officials said nearby residents were trying to put out the fire with a garden hose.
The fire sparked near a subdivision, but did not threaten homes. Investigators said the fire destroyed farm equipment stored in a field. No one was hurt.
Firefighters managed to get the flames under control in about an hour.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
