The Wichita City council approved a $1 fee increase for golfers on public courses.
The vote comes after months and months of discussions on how to handle the loss of income at the courses. The city manager recommended closing one of the city courses last year.
The park board on Tuesday recommended the fee increase for the next four years.
The council instead approved the fee increase for 2012 with an annual review. The council also voted to set up a committee to study privatization of some of the public courses.
The fee increase will go into affect April 1.
