A 35-year-old woman has died from stab wounds following a domestic dispute in a south Wichita parking lot.

It happened outside the K-Mart near 47th St. South and Broadway around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Police said she and her 39-year-old boyfriend got into an argument that turned violent. Lt. Todd Ojile said no one witnessed the incident, however a truck driver sleeping in parked semi heard a woman scream. He told authorities he saw the woman lying on the ground.

Another woman leaving a nearby restaurant also saw the victim lying on the ground. Both witnesses said the man was standing over the woman.

Officers arrived to find the man also suffering from stab wounds. However, police are unclear whether his injuries appeared to be self-inflicted. Investigators said they do not believe anyone else was involved in the stabbing.

The man and the woman were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The woman later died from her injuries. Police said the man’s condition does not appear to be life-threatening.

Authorities hope to interview him Friday afternoon to learn more about the incident.

Officials said the couple had been staying in a nearby motel, but had been evicted. No names have been released at this time.

This is Wichita's fifth homicide of 2012.
