A medical condition played a role in a fiery crash in south Sedgwick county during the morning rush hour, officials said.
Deputies said a 75-year-old man was driving a pick up near 71st St. south, when he struck a Kansas Highway Patrol Motorist Assist vehicle. The man continued north on Broadway, striking another vehicle and a guardrail near 31st S. The impact caused the truck to burst into flames.
Deputies arrived on scene, pulling the man from the burning vehicle. The driver, and two Sedgwick county officers were taken to a Wichita hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Investigators believe the man was suffering from a medical condition when the accidents occurred.
