Two Sedgwick county sheriff's deputies are back on the job, one day after a daring rescue was caught on camera.
Deputies Joe Page and Tom Delgado raced to the scene of an accident in the 3700 block of south Broadway around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.
When Delgado arrived he said the truck was on fire, the driver still inside. Delgado said he yelled at the man to get out, but the man refused, still reviving the engine and trying to shift gears. As the truck continued to burn, Page arrived on the scene. The two made a split-second decision to cut the seat belt and pull the man to safety, just before the truck became overcome by flames.
"I couldn't live with myself if I let that man burn to death," said Delgado.
The 65-year-old driver was suffering from low blood sugar and doesn't remember anything from the event. He and the deputies were all treated for smoke inhalation.
