Jobs are on the line as Sedgwick County continues its budget battle.
County commissioners are expected to get the specifics during Wednesday's regular meeting.
The county must cut $9.5 million from its budget for next year.
Bill Buchanan, County manager, said at this point, vacant positions may not be filled, and jobs that were on the chopping block for January may be cut now to save money.
"For those of us who are in the business of public service, it's very difficult to talk about cutting programs," Buchanan said. "But we are professional enough to know what needs to be done."
He said cutting programs mean cutting positions.
Commissioners will vote on the final budget in August.
