Cops On Rails Issue 18 Citations

Thursday, September 8, 2011

One person was arrested for outstanding warrants after a Cops on Rails operation.

Local law enforcement teamed up with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for the three-hour special enforcement Wednesday.

The Sedgwick county sheriff's office said officers issued 18 citations during the operation. Six tickets were issued for violating railroad crossing statutes. Authorities also arrested one person for warrants.

Officials remind motorists to stop, look, listen and live when a train is approaching a railroad crossing. Violators could be fined $195, plus court costs.

The sheriff's office said in a statement the agency will continue special enforcements for traffic safety.
