If you are arrested on municipal offenses it's likely you will pay for your stay.
The Wichita City Council passed an ordinance for jail fees. If you are arrested you will pay a one time $10.00 booking fee, then $2.00 an hour for your stay at the jail. The money will go to pay the county for using the jail.
The county started charging cities $2.09 an hour to use the Sedgwick County Jail in 2008.
The city is hoping by charging the fees, it will help offset the city's costs.
The city council passed the ordinance on first reading today, they will vote on the second reading next week. The ordinance then would go into effect shortly after that.
