Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signs what some call a sweeping anti-abortion bill into law Friday in the Capitol building in Topeka.
Among other things the law will ban abortions performed solely because of the baby's sex.
It also declares life begins at fertilization.
Kansans for Life state development director David Gittrich says, "You can look in any biology book and see that human life begins at fertilization."
Elise Higgins, lobbyist for Kansas National Organization for Women says, "We're concerned about the language that says life begins at fertilization. We're concerned about the implications that could have."
Some abortion-rights supporters worry the language in the measure could be used to legally harass providers.
Peter Brownlie, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri says, "It is very much an intrusion into the personal decisions of women and families and their doctors."
The changes take effect in July.
