Advance voting at the Sedgwick County Election Office, 510 N. Main St., began today for the 2012 General Election.

More than 400 people cast a ballot in advance, including some Wichita high school students.

"I think it's a responsibility to vote as an American. You're able to vote for who you want to vote for. I think that it's important to exercise your right to vote," said Alexandra Bond, who turned 18-year-old last week.

Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman said her office has sent out more than 71,000 advance ballots in the mail. Advance ballots must be in the Election Office on Nov. 6, by 7 p.m.

Lehman said new registered voters increased by more than 9,000 people since the primary election.

"We did have more new voters registered, so our registration numbers are up from where they were in the primary. So, that's a good thing, more people interested in voting," said Lehman.

The Sedgwick County Election Office will be open for advance voting in person at the following times:

Oct. 24-26, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Oct. 29-Nov. 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 15 remote sites will begin advance voting in person on Oct. 30 and end on Nov. 3.
