Vice President Joe Biden says the millions of economic recovery dollars being spent in Kansas are saving thousands of jobs and will create thousands more.

Today, Biden spoke in Overland Park as work began on an $82
million reconstruction of part of U.S. 69.

He said the project will employ almost 2,500 people over the
next few years. But he said the project will create or save
thousands more jobs among nearby businesses.

He also said the recovery dollars are keeping Kansas officials
from having to lay off teachers and other public workers to make
ends meet.

The trip is part of a two-day swing highlighting construction
projects undertaken with the help of the federal funds.
