Kansas legislators were still handling some normal business even as President Barack Obama took office.

Some legislative committees met as Obama gave his inaugural address, although both chambers of the Republican-controlled Legislature weren't scheduled to be in session until later Tuesday.

The Senate normally convenes in the afternoon, so it didn't have to change its schedule.

The House normally meets in the morning — and its leaders postponed the daily session until 2:30 p.m.
