Kansas has no representation on the House Armed Services Committee.

It's the first time in at least a decade and comes as a decision about terrorist detainees is looming.

The committee completed its membership list last week, with Missouri Democrat Rep. Ike Skelton serving as chairman. Rep. Todd Akin, a Missouri Republican, is also on the panel.

Kansas had representation with former Congresswoman Nancy Boyda, but the Democrat lost her re-election bid in November to Republican Lynn Jenkins. Her 2nd District includes Fort Leavenworth and Fort Riley.

President-elect Barack Obama has said he wants to make closing Guantanamo Bay detainee operations a priority when he takes office next week. Fort Leavenworth has been suggested as a likely destination for the detainees.
