Senate Vice President John Vratil wins a three-way race to retain his position.

The moderate Republican from Leawood defeated two conservative opponents Monday in balloting by the Senate Republican Caucus. Vratil ended up with 17 votes against 10 for Terry Bruce of Hutchinson and four for Karin Brownlee of Olathe.

This is the second term for Vratil, who also serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
