New Kan. Congresswoman Seeks Plum Assignments

Rep.-elect Lynn Jenkins is hoping for seats on the House Armed Services and Financial Services committees.

She's also preparing to "call folks out" as a member of the House's Republican minority, though she promises to work with Democrats.

Jenkins unseated Democratic Rep. Nancy Boyda in last week's election in the 2nd District of eastern Kansas. Jenkins is a two-term state treasurer.

She plans to travel to Washington next week for freshmen orientation and to participate in House leadership elections.

She says the Armed Services Committee is a goal because the district includes Forts Leavenworth and Riley. And the Financial Services Committee is important because of the economy.
