Kansas Lawmaker Wants Appointed Lt. Govs. To Be Confirmed

Sen. Dennis Pyle plans to introduce legislation requiring Senate confirmation if the lieutenant governor is appointed by the governor.

The Hiawatha Republican's proposal comes amid speculation that Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is going to resign to take a job in the Obama administration. That would make Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson the new governor. He would then appoint his replacement.

Sebelius' office said Tuesday she hasn't been in contact with Obama or his staff about a job in Washington.
