Wichita school leaders said work on new schools included in a $370 million bond issue will begin immediately. School leaders held a news conference this morning, just hours after the bond issue passed by 1,600 votes.
The first steps in the process include designing schools and hiring contractors to build the schools. School leaders vow to get the projects done on time and on budget. "There's going to be alot of challenges, but our staff is up to it and looking forward to it", said school board member Lynn Rogers.
The bond includes funds for six new schools in Northeast and Southeast Wichita. There is also money for improvements to athletic and fine arts facilities.
Hundreds of provisional ballots must be counted, but school leaders do not believe it will change the outcome of the election.
