Republican challenger Nick Jordan hopes discontent with Congress will allow him to unseat Democratic Congressman Dennis Moore.

Moore is seeking a sixth term in the 3rd District. It includes Johnson and Wyandotte counties and eastern Douglas County, including part of Lawrence.

In past races, Moore has successfully wooed moderate Republicans to first capture, then hold onto the seat.

But he's the only member of the state's delegation who voted for the recently enacted $700-billion financial industry rescue package. Jordan made Moore's position a key issue.

Moore says the package was necessary to improve the economy. Jordan says Congress should have tried free-market ideas, such as suspending the capital gains tax.
