Whole World Watching Election Drama

By: Associated Press Email

The whole world is watching.

From Berlin's Brandenburg Gate to small towns like Obama, Japan, residents are watching the unfolding drama as Americans vote for a new president.

Many overseas citizens say they are weary after eight years of Bush administration policies, while others are inspired by Barack Obama's historic run to be the first black U.S. president.

The foreign minister in mostly Muslim Malaysia says an Obama victory would help the world "to see the U.S. represent a more cosmopolitan or universal political attitude."

But it's not all about an Obama victory.

Some Israelis say John McCain would likely be tougher on Iran. And the German newspaper Bild has praised McCain as "the War Hero," and his running mate Sarah Palin as "the Beautiful Unknown."
