Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh is predicting a general election turnout never before seen in Kansas.

He said Friday that based on record registrations, advanced ballot requests and key races "from the courthouse to the White House," he expects 1.36 million of the 1.75 million registered Kansas voters to participate.

That would be a record for total people voting. It equates to a 78 percent turnout rate. The percentage of voters has higher in 1992, when 85 percent of the state's registered voters cast ballots.

Thornburgh said the pace of advance voting had been brisk, with a few issues regarding voter eligibility.
