Fraternal Order Of Police Endorses Sheriff Candidate

The Friends of the Fraternal Order of Police in Wichita has endorsed Democrat candidate Walt Kuykendall for Sedgwick County Sheriff.

Sheriff Gary Steed announced a few months ago that he would not seek another term.

"Kuykendall is a well-rounded candidate who has 31 years experience in law enforcement serving Wichita and Kansas communities," the Order says in a news release. "During this time period, he has held several high level positions that have given him a wide array of law enforcement experience which will be beneficial to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office."

Kuykendall retired as a lieutenant with the Wichita Police Department after 29 years of service. He also has served as interim police chief in Valley Center and Iola.

The Republican candidate running for election is Undersheriff Bob Hinshaw.
