Kansas Revenues Below Expectations In September

Kansas collected 2.7% less in tax revenues than anticipated in September.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius says she's watching the state's financial picture closely but still believes Kansas is insulated from some of the nation's economic problems.

The Department of Revenue's preliminary figures show that the state collected $573 million in taxes in September. The state's official projection was $589 million.

There was a little cushion. For July and August, the first two months of the 2009 fiscal year, tax revenues were running almost $15 million ahead of expectations.

Sebelius says Kansas doesn't appear to be losing jobs or seeing a rise in foreclosures.
