The U.S Senate has voted to confirm U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren of Kansas to a seat on the federal bench in Wichita.
The lifetime appointment for Melgren and nine other judicial nominees around the country was approved by unanimous consent.
Melgren will replace U.S. District Judge Monti Belot, who took senior status earlier this year.
Melgren has served as U.S. attorney since 2002.
He is a longtime Republican Party activist and a close friend of Kansas Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, who was key in pushing the nomination through.
