Connecticut Democrats are considering trying to force Joe Lieberman out of the party.
The veteran senator calls himself an "independent Democrat." He was re-elected as an independent two years ago after losing the Democratic primary. Six years earlier, he nearly became vice president as Al Gore's running mate.
But he spoke at the Republican convention, and he supports John McCain.
The state Democratic party has scheduled a debate tonight on a resolution that would censure Lieberman and ask him to resign from the Democratic Party.
One supporter of the resolution says Lieberman's GOP convention speech, in which he praised McCain and criticized Barack Obama, convinced her that state Democrats need to take a stand.
But the head of the state Democratic party says there are just a few people who want to pass such a resolution now. She says the rest want to focus on the upcoming election.
