President Bush is coming to Topeka this month
to help raise money for State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins' congressional
campaign.
Bush will host a private luncheon fundraiser for Jenkins on
Sept. 16 at a local residence. Jenkins is challenging incumbent
Democratic Rep. Nancy Boyda.
The last time Bush came to Topeka was in 2006, when he held a
rally for Republican Rep. Jim Ryun at the Kansas Expocentre. Days
later, Ryun lost his bid for re-election in a surprise upset to
Boyda.
Campaign spokesman Josh Hersh says Jenkins doesn't agree with
the direction that Republicans or Democrats have been taking the
country. But he says Jenkins is honored to host Bush.
Invitations to the event ask for $500 to attend and up to $7,500
for a couple to have their picture taken with Bush.
