Recounts Confirm Outcomes In Close Kansas Races

A recount of votes confirms Rep. Virginia Beamer's narrow loss in the Republican primary in the 118th Kansas House District.

Don Hineman, a Dighton farmer and rancher, had 1,882 votes to 1,865 votes for Beamer, from Oakley.

Initial results election night showed Hineman 19 votes ahead of Beamer. She picked up three votes, and he gained one.

Hineman's victory gives him the seat, because no one else is running.

Meanwhile, a re-count in the Democratic primary in the 24th House District in Johnson County didn't change the outcome, though both candidates picked up a vote.

The winner is Mike Slattery, son of Democratic Senate candidate Jim Slattery. Mike Slattery had 650 votes to 647 for Andy Sandler. Both are from Mission.

Slattery faces the incumbent, Republican Ronnie Metsker, of Overland Park, in November.
