Police in Little Rock say they've captured a suspect in today's shooting at Arkansas Democratic Party headquarters.
They say the incident began when a man entered the party office
and asked to speak to the state chairman. Police say the man then
fired three shots.
Party chairman Bill Gwatney was taken to a hospital in
critical condition. He has died from his wounds.
Authorities say the suspect was captured in a county south of
Little Rock after being shot. The suspect has died from his injuries.
The FBI says it's assisting the Arkansas state police in the
investigation.
Governor Mike Beebe, a Democrat who served with Gwatney in the
Legislature, had been on a flight to Springdale in northwestern
Arkansas. A spokesman says Beebe returned to the Capitol after
hearing about the shooting.
