Democratic Sen. Mark Gilstrap says Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' support for his opponent was a factor in him losing his primary race in his re-election bid.
Gilstrap said Wednesday he's not angry but is a little upset the governor publicly endorsed Kelly Kultala. So did Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, who said Gilstrap voted against many of the governor's proposals for health care, education and environmental controls.
Gilstrap first was elected in 1996 in the 5th District that includes parts of Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties. He was the only legislative incumbent to lose a primary race.
Kultala faces Republican Steve Fitzgerald in November.
