State Board of Education member Carol Rupe announced today she will not seek re-election. Rupe has represented Wichita on the board for the past eight years.
Rupe was on the board when members tackled the controversial issue of guidelines for science education. An earlier board, with conservative members in the majority, changed standards to criticize evolution. The board voted to change the guidelines that questioned evolution.
The Wichita Republican also served on the Wichita School Board, and worked as a teacher in the Wichita district.
