A Michigan soldier serving in Iraq has been sworn in as an attorney during a unique long-distance video ceremony.
Army Reserve Maj. Miles Gengler of Grand Blanc was sworn in Thursday by the chief justice of the Michigan's Supreme Court. The oath was administered from the state's capital city with Gengler's family present.
The soldier was 6,000 miles away in Baghdad's Green Zone.
The 35-year-old Gengler says he's "in awe" people made the ceremony possible.
Kelly says she's unaware of such an event happening before.
Gengler took the bar exam in February after graduating from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills.
He almost missed the exam because of his deployment but was able to delay his departure to take the test. He found out he passed in May.
