You may have heard that Costco is planning to build a store in Wichita. The city already has a Sam's Club.
Big box wholesale stores and other discount stores like Target and Wal-Mart can be great places to find a bargain. But Dana Dratch of says there are some bargain shopping secrets to get the best deals.

Here are some of those secrets:

1. Play spot the marketing. There's a reason why many stores put the bakery and flowers near the front. They're designed to hit your senses as soon as you come in the door. So the experts say don't ever shop when your tired or hungry. Have a list and a plan of attack.

2. Shop before you join. Make sure this is a club you really want to join before you pay for an annual membership. If you love the club but hate the fees, consider sharing the membership with a friend or family member. Just make sure you're not breaking any club rules.

3. Beware of large carts. Big carts invite you to put more items in them. If you know you're only going in for a few items, get a smaller cart or a hand basket. And consider paying cash; estimate how much money you'll need and only bring that amount.

4. Carry a calculator. Sometimes you can save buying in bulk. But to determine if you're really getting a good deal, use a calculator to figure out the unit price and compare that other stores and other brands.
