It's a big jackpot and the husband and wife from Montgomery County who won it have big plans for their newfound wealth. The winners, who asked the Lottery not to disclose their identities, won $1,065,106 by capturing last night's Super Kansas Cash jackpot.
One play on their $2 Quick Pick ticket matched all numbers drawn, which were 8-12-18-21-27 Cashball 05. The winners told Lottery officials they first discovered their good fortune by checking their ticket on the Kansas Lottery’s website last night. For extra assurance, they asked for a printout of the winning numbers from a Lottery retailer this morning. Finally convinced they were the lucky winners, they picked up their daughter and grandson and headed for Topeka.
After mandatory federal income taxes of 25 percent and state income taxes of 5 percent are withheld from their prize, the winners will receive a cash payment of $745,574. That will be enough, they said, for the wife to retire. The husband was already retired.
Their plans for the prize money include, “Paying off our bills and our kids’ bills, purchasing a car for a grandchild, making home repairs, paying off our house mortgage and putting some money in savings.” The winners have two grown children and three grandchildren.
The winners purchased their jackpot-winning ticket at Cherry Hill Express, located at 109 S. Olive in Cherryvale. The store receives a $1,000 bonus from the Kansas Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning Super Kansas Cash ticket.
