The co-owner of a business that developed the Mr. Coffee coffeemaker popularized by pitchman Joe DiMaggio has died in Cleveland.

A funeral home said Thursday that Samuel L. Glazer died March 12 at the Cleveland Clinic of complications of leukemia. He was 89.

Services were held March 14 the Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel in Cleveland Heights.

Glazer and his North American Systems business partner, Vincent Marotta Sr., introduced the Mr. Coffee drip coffeemaker in 1972 to compete with older percolator and less-tasty instant coffee methods.

A corporate online history says within three years Mr. Coffee was the top-selling coffee maker brand in the U.S.

The partners sold North American Systems in 1987 for $182 million.
