Chrysler is reaching back into history for the name of its new small car.
The compact will be called the Dodge Dart, named after the 1960s small car that gearheads turned into street racers.
The Dart is due in showrooms during the first half of next year. It's an important product for the company to attract younger customers. The current compacts offered by Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep have been surpassed by competitors.
The Dart is expected to perform well and get 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Fiat-controlled Chrysler says it's based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta but will be longer and wider.
Buyers will have a choice of three four-cylinder engines. The Dart will be formally introduced at the Detroit auto show in January.
