A Kansas man, who built a replica of the Golden Gate Bridge in his backyard, is getting the full San Francisco, California treatment as he as his wife take a trip to see the real thing.

Larry and Barbara Richardson's love story is going on its 44th year and is still strong. But that's not the one we're talking about here.

A Golden Gate Bridge lives in the backyard of the Richardson's farm in Mulvane. The model he built with his dad and a hundred pounds of concrete.

The only time Larry has actually seen the real Golden Gate Bridge is when he was on his way to Vietnam. But it was a glance enough for his backyard inspiration.

His wife, Barbara, had never seen it. She'd never been on an airplane before. In fact, she's never been in a city bigger than Wichita.

What's also inspiring to the Richardsons is the way San Francisco has opened its heart to them, since reading their story in a column by the San Francisco Chronicle's Chuck Nevius.

Like recent presidential visits, this one turned into a fundraiser. More than 100 people have offered to help pay for the Richardson's trip, which had been financed by the Chronicle.
