A mysterious illness is now making dogs sick and even killing them. The Ohio Dept. of Agriculture just issued a warning Friday afternoon to all dog owners, telling them to watch out for Canine Circovirus. It's a scary new disease, that can kill your dog.
The illness is being blamed for at least four dog deaths in Akron and Cincinnati.
"We need to know all we can about it. It kind of scares everyone at first like the swine virus with humans," said Sara Warvel of Kettering.
According to the Ohio Agriculture Department, symptoms of canine circovirus include vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weight loss, and lethargy. But probably the most concerning, right now there's very little information available about the virus, where it came from and how it spreads.
"It can peobably speread real easily so it would be good to know what we can doing real quick before it does," said Warvel.
"I don't want her to get it because she's really close to us. If she got it that would be really bad for her. I just want to make sure she's healthy," Rachel Moyer said about her dog.
To make sure your dog stays Circovirus-free, vets recommend owners use the same standard precautions used to reduce the spread of viral infections in general like monitoring your furry friend closely for signs of illness and limit interaction with other dogs.
