A 74-year-old Maine man has made his first court appearance on charges he fatally shot two tenants after a possible dispute on where they parked their cars during a snowstorm.

Deputy Attorney General Bill Stokes said James Pak did not enter a plea during a brief court appearance Monday afternoon in York County Superior Court in Alfred. He is being held without bail.

Pak is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of 19-year-old Derrick Thompson and his 18-year-old girlfriend, Alivia Welch, in Biddeford.

Police say Pak shot the pair Saturday evening. Thompson and Welch, along with Thompson's mother and her 6-year-old son, rented an apartment from Pak that was attached to his home.
