Fear Of Looting Grips NYC As New Storm Threatens

Tuesday, November 6, 2012

Richard Chan is protecting his storm-battered Staten Island home from feared looters with knives and a sword.

Chan and many others in the region hit hard by Sandy are sticking close to what belongings they have left on a cold Election Day, even as a new storm threatens.

New York City police say overall crime citywide is down since the storm hit, with little looting reported.

Still, many residents of New York City's Staten Island and the battered Rockaways in Queens are sticking close to home, saying they don't want to lose any more of their possessions.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg urged them to get out of the storm's way, but didn't order evacuations.
