FREMONT, Ohio The State Highway Patrol says two people riding in a van were killed when it was struck by a car that sped down the Ohio Turnpike at more than 125 mph.
A patrol spokeswoman says two troopers separately spotted the car but weren't able to catch or keep up with it before the crash Thursday night near Fremont in northwest Ohio.
Staff Lt. Anne Ralston says other drivers began calling about the speeding, weaving vehicle more than 20 minutes before the crash. In that time, she says, the driver covered roughly 60 miles and passed two troopers. Ralston says each trooper tried to pull behind the vehicle, but it sped away.
She says the driver, a 24-year-old Kent man, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and was hospitalized for psychiatric evaluation.
