HENDERSON, Nev Fire officials and a witness say a drum of fuel left too close to a bonfire exploded in the desert in southern Nevada, injuring seven young people who gathered to celebrate a high school graduation ceremony.

A participant told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the explosion late Monday night outside Henderson occurred after Basic High's commencement.

Basic graduate Maddie Anderson, who was among the injured, told the paper a boy rolled a 55-gallon barrel of diesel fuel to the edge of the blaze and the container blew up a short time later.

She says five of the teens admitted to University Medical Center's burn center had to stay overnight and two were released Tuesday.

She said two girls remained in intensive care. A hospital spokeswoman couldn't immediately be reached Wednesday.

The Clark County Fire Department says the explosion is being investigated.
