One staffer is dead and another was seriously injured in a disturbance at a state prison in southeast Colorado.
State prison spokeswoman Alison Morgan said the injuries occurred early Monday in the kitchen at the state prison about 45 miles southeast of Pueblo. Further details were not available.
The prison is on lockdown while state authorities investigate.
Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility houses about 1,000 male prisoners. It opened in 1987.

Two prison staff members are reported to be seriously injured in a disturbance at a state prison in southwest Colorado.
Officials at the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility in Crowley tell KOAA-TV that at least one prisoner is involved, but it's not clear what happened that led to the injuries.
State prison spokeswoman Alison Morgan says authorities are still trying to get more information.
Crowley is about 45 miles east of Pueblo.
