WICHITA, Kan. - If Labor Day weekend is the old-fashioned time to start election-year campaigning, the group 'Women for Kansas' is following it.
The so-called "grassroots" movement of women is holding a convention in downtown Wichita Friday and Saturday. A large outdoor rally is planned Friday evening, in a park next to Century II.
The Women for Kansas agenda is simple: get ride of the Kansas Governor, Secretary of State and Senator Pat Roberts.
Organizers claim Gov. Sam Brownback hasn't really cut taxes in the last four years, but raised them statewide.
It may seem like this group is pro-Democrat, but not completely. Women for Kansas has endorsed independent Greg Orman to replace Roberts in November. Orman is expected to speak at the evening rally.
The group's convention is located at the downtown Drury Hotel Broadview.
