Veterans Day activities abundant in KAKEland

City and county offices in Wichita are closed today, because it's Veterans Day. There are plenty of activities across KAKEland.

Veterans Memorial Park downtown will hold a brief program later this morning, marking the hour when world war one ended 95 years ago.
An open house will follow that, with wreaths on display at all the memorials.

The Wichita VA Center will dedicate a "Peace Memorial Garden" at 10:00 a.m.

Wichita State University is opening a new 'military and veteran student center. It will provide special resources for active and veteran students.

A mass is planned in Pilsen, near the statue of father Emil Kapaun.
He received the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously earlier this year.

A Veterans Day ceremony is planned at 11:00 at Sunset Park in Salina.

A National Guard Commander will speak at a holiday service in Goodland. That begins at 12:00 noon CT, in the VFW hall on Main Street.

Derby will hold its own Veterans Day celebration at 2:00 p.m. at Garrett Park.

Emporia claims to be the first U.S. city to mark Veterans Day.
