A new federal program aims to track scam artists who prey on military families.

The Repeat Offenders Against Military Database includes information and criminal enforcement actions against companies and individuals. The nationwide database will give law enforcement agencies special authority to track down criminals.

“Our military men and women and their families sacrifice each and every day to keep our country safe,” Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said. “Crooks and scam artists who prey on military families require a particular focus from law enforcement authorities.”

Schmidt is a co-chair of the Consumer Protection Committee of the National Association of Attorneys General. He said the issue is identifying the repeat offenders who may operate under different corporate names.
