A Fort Riley soldier has died in Afghanistan, the second to be killed in three days.
The Department of Defense said Sgt. Matthew H. Stiltz of Spokane, Washington died Monday when his unit was attacked by insurgents in Zerok, Afghanistan.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division of Fort Riley.
Stiltz has since been posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant. He had served at Fort Riley since 2006, and this was his third deployment.
Last Friday, Capt. James D. Nehl of Gardiner, Oregon died in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan when his unit was attacked.
He had been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division of Fort Riley.
